With Examples Learn: How To Sort Items In Flask Sqlalchemy / Flask-Sqlalchemy Order By

Flask-Sqlalchemy Order By:

Flask-Sqlalchemy Order By "order_by()" is a method used to specify the ordering of results when querying the database.

This order_by() method allows you to sort the items of a query based on one or more columns.

Sqlalchemy Order By Id Desc:

Sqlalchemy order by id desc is an order query method used to specify the ordering of results when querying the database in descending order based on the primary key (id).

In SQLAlchemy, when you want to order query results by the primary key (id) in descending order, you can rely on the desc() method with the order_by() clause for effective sorting operations.

This allows you to retrieve rows sorted by their id in descending order, that is, descending order from highest id to lowest id.

Sqlalchemy Order By Id Desc Example:

Here's how you can define an SQLAlchemy query to order by id in descending order:

# BEFORE ORDER BY ID METHOD

# GET ALL USERS
@app.route('/all_users')
@admin_only
def all_blog_users():
result = db.session.execute(db.select(User))
users = result.scalars().all()

return render_template("all_users.html", all_blog_users=users, current_user=current_user)

# AFTER ORDER BY ID METHOD

# GET ALL USERS
@app.route('/all_users')
@admin_only
def all_blog_users():
# result = db.session.execute(db.select(User))
# users = result.scalars().all()
# order_by(User.id.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER
users = User.query.order_by(User.id.desc()).all()

return render_template("all_users.html", all_blog_users=users, current_user=current_user)

If you have a pagination system on your page, change this line:

# order_by(User.id.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER
users = User.query.order_by(User.id.desc()).all()

to this line depending on your pagination:

# order_by(User.id.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER
users = User.query.order_by(User.id.desc()).paginate(page=, per_page=)

Sqlalchemy Order By Date Desc:

Sqlalchemy order by date desc is an order query method used to specify the ordering of results when querying the database in descending order based on the date per result.

In SQLAlchemy, when you want to order query results by a date column in descending order, you use the desc() method with the order_by() clause.

This allows you to retrieve rows sorted by the date column in descending order, that is, descending date order from newest to oldest.

Sqlalchemy Order By Date Desc Example:

Here's how you can define an SQLAlchemy query to order by a date column in descending order:

# BEFORE ORDER BY DATE METHOD

# GET ALL COMMENTS
@app.route('/all_comments')
@admin_only
def all_blog_comments():
result = db.session.execute(db.select(Comments))
comments = result.scalars().all()

return render_template("all_comments.html", all_blog_comments=comments, current_user=current_user)

# AFTER ORDER BY DATE METHOD

# GET ALL COMMENTS
@app.route('/all_comments')
@admin_only
def all_blog_comments():
# result = db.session.execute(db.select(Comments))
# comments = result.scalars().all()

# order_by(User.date.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER
comments = Comments.query.order_by(Comments.date.desc()).all()
return render_template("all_comments.html", all_blog_comments=comments, current_user=current_user)

If you have a pagination system on your page, change this line:

# order_by(User.date.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER

comments = Comments.query.order_by(Comments.date.desc()).all()

to this line depending on your pagination:

# order_by(User.date.desc()) FOR ORDER SORTING IN A DESCENDING ORDER
comments = Comments.query.order_by(Comments.date.desc()).paginate(page=, per_page=)

 Following the examples and techniques outlined in this guide on How To Sort Items In Flask Sqlalchemy / Flask-Sqlalchemy Order By:

You can take your app to the next level, providing users with a seamless and intuitive experience when interacting with sorted data.
